Message From The President

Dear Members,Greetings & let me wish you a Happy New Year.

In 2012, we usher in a New Year with all its challenges head on.

First & foremost, there is an increase in the monthly subscription to $25, bearing in mind that NAA has been struggling financially over all these years.

When our alma mater came up with the third financial assistance from 1^st December 2011, they have made it very clear that this will be the final assistance package, failing which they will take over the Clubhouse. This means that NAA will be dissolved and any assets shall be donated to Ngee Ann Polytechnic as provided in the Constitution. We will all lose everything that we have built thus far.

A quick check with other alumni clubhouses in Singapore, that even with the increase, we remain the lowest of the subscription among all.

In our recently conducted survey, 60% of our members voted for the subscription to be between $20 and $35.

We have also brought up this discussion in the last 3 Annual General Meetings, with the majority of members agreeing to an increase in the subscription.

With a new team in the General Committee, we believe in biting the temporary bullet & implementing the increase in subscription, plus a new series of marketing plans & strategies.

We seek your fullest support in helping NAA secure one new member for 2012, and the new New Year will look much brighter in the future.

President's Speech

Dear Fellow Members,

WE ARE LISTENING & WE ARE GOING TO CHANGE.

We have written to Ngee Ann Polytechnic, we have conducted a survey with our members, we have talked to our members, we have met as a new General Committee, and we would like to share with you our direction for the next 2 years.

We have highlighted the financial challenges faced by NAA at our last AGM on 23 July 2011. On your behalf, the GC has appealed to Ngee Ann Polytechnic for financial assistance to sustain the Clubhouse's operations. In response to our appeal, Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) Council has given careful consideration and approved the provision of financial support to NAA for a period of 2 years, from 1 December 2011 to 30 November 2013. This will be the last financial support package offered by NP. We are appreciative of this offer and the previous financial assistance packages. In the event that NAA cannot sustain the viability of the Clubhouse by 30 November 2013, or when it fails to make repayment of its 2 outstanding instalments ($167,500 per instalment) owed to NP, NAA will have to cease its Clubhouse operations and return the Clubhouse premises to NP.

With this financial support from NP, it means that the 1,005 NP-NAA memberships given to Student Leaders will cease with effect from 1 December 2011 i.e.no more NP-NAA Student Members using our gym, except for the 8 Student Members who are paying full subscription. This financial support will also allow NP staff full membership privileges during this period.

We have scrutinized our accounts and found it can be self-sustaining, only if monthly subscription be increased to $25 plus GST per month, with effect from 1 January 2012. We cannot delay this any longer. Anything less, the clubhouse would not be sustainable in the longer term. With this increase, we would still have the lowest subscription among all the alumni associations. We seek your understanding on this matter.

We find that our potential target for new members is not the fresh graduates at NP. Their main focus is on National Service and further education. We are targeting the more mature alumni who has well settled in their careers, families & more than willing to contribute back to the alma mater. Hence, we seek your help and cooperation in recruiting just one (1) new member in 2012. This way, we shall double our membership, and will be financially sustainable

We seek your help & strong support, in sustaining our Clubhouse.
